India may not participate in this year’s Asia Cup, rescheduled last year due to the pandemic. The Final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship is played simultaneously as when the Asia Cup 2021 schedule.
India is still in the race for the WTC final, which is expected to occur in mid-June this year at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Additionally, even if India doesn’t make the Test Championship final, BCCI will host bilateral series at home to keep the broadcasters and fans happy. Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and South Africa are the potential teams that may tour India around June.
The Broadcasters are likely to take a hit as well, with the marquee India-Pakistan clash becoming an irregularity these days regarding the state of bilateral tensions among the two nations. After ICC events, Asia Cup remains the only event where the two teams play each other.
Previously the hosts for the Asia Cup 2020, Pakistan Cricket Board, had exchanged hosting rights for the tournament with Sri Lanka Cricket. Through this arrangement, The SLC will now host the rescheduled Asia Cup expected in June 2021, while the PCB will host the Asia Cup 2022.
