The Jamaica Kingsmen have qualified for their first Caribbean Premier League final after completing a five-wicket victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors at Kensington Oval. In the high-stakes Qualifier 2, Jamaica chased down a target of 207 with two balls to spare.
Rovman Powell led the final stages of the chase, scoring an unbeaten 40 off 17 deliveries. During the innings, Powell reached the milestone of 450 career T20 sixes. The victory marks a significant recovery for the franchise in its debut season; the Kingsmen reached the final after losing their first three matches of the 2026 campaign and winning consecutive knockout fixtures.
Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer scored an unbeaten 102 from 45 balls. This was Hetmyer’s second century of the 2026 season and the third of his CPL career. His innings guided Guyana to a total of 206 for 4 after they were asked to bat. Despite finishing the league stage at the top of the table, the Warriors lost both Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 to exit the tournament.
In a rare gesture for a knockout game, Powell shared his Player-of-the-Match award with Hetmyer during the post-match ceremony, acknowledging the Guyanese batter’s century.
Reflecting on his performance, Powell described the innings as one of the most significant of his career. “Maybe the best one that I’ve played. It’s the most impactful, to be honest, and it’s good to get such an impactful innings in a playoff game that puts us in the final,” Powell said. He also noted the record of Jamaican teams in postseason play, stating, “Once you get a Jamaican team into the playoffs, they’re dangerous. I know it’s showtime.”
The Jamaica Kingsmen will face the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the final on Sunday, September 20. The match is scheduled for the Kensington Oval, marking the first time the Barbados venue has hosted a CPL final.
