BCCI has reportedly not shown any eagerness to extend the traditional 4-Test series Down Under as proposed by Cricket Australia. The board, however, is mulling on the idea but believes that it might be tough on the players and will need a lot of re-scheduling to be done.
Australia and India series holds a major significance as the traditional Ashes. It also pulls significant crowd from both the countries as two of the very best cricketing nation in history, plays for a 4-Test Match series.
The traditional 4-Test match series has been proposed to be expanded to 5-match series from next summer if things go as per plan. Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts had stated that he wishes to stage a series in association with BCCI, which can inspire the cricket world.
“We won’t rule anything out in terms of the Indian series. Along with the BCCI and Indian players, we want to stage a series that inspires the cricket world, whether or not there are people in the stands,” he stated. “We need to face all possibilities. Fortunately, we have a little bit of time to work out scenarios.”
The international calendar and FTP will need to be re-worked if the 4-Test series Down Under is to be extended. It will also mean India will tour Australia for additional six-seven days. A source in the know of things told The Telegraph, there is no certainty on a final decision, but there are still discussions going on looking at the possibilities, and an agreement could be reached soon.
India beat Australia Down Under the last time both the sides faced-off. It was the first Test series win on the Australian soil for India and captain Virat Kohli.
