Indian Team’s Tour of South Africa Schedule Announced
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the schedule for the Indian team’s tour of South Africa later this year on July 14, 2023.
Tour Details
The tour will include three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests for the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy. The series will begin on December 10 and end on January 3rd with the second Test.
T20Is
The tour will start with three T20Is, to be played on December 10, 12, and 14 in Durban, Gqeberha, and Johannesburg respectively.
ODIs
The first ODI will be held in Johannesburg on December 17, followed by two more ODIs in Gqeberha and Paarl on December 19 and 21 respectively.
Tests
The final leg of the series will consist of two Tests, both part of the World Test Championship 2023-25. The Boxing Day Test will be played in Centurion from December 26 to 30, followed by the New Year’s Test in Cape Town from January 7 to 11.
Importance of the Freedom Series
The Freedom Series is significant as it honors Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, two great leaders who shaped our respective nations and the world around them. The Boxing Day Test and the New Year Test are important fixtures on the international cricket calendar, and the schedule has been planned around these marquee dates. Jay Shah, Secretary of BCCI, expressed confidence in the fans being treated to enthralling contests with no shortage of intensity.
World Test Championship
The two-Test series will mark the beginning of the World Test Championship 2023-25 season for South Africa. They are only scheduled to play a two-match Test series in this WTC cycle.
