The fifth match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 took place at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas between Texas Super Kings (TSK) and Washington Freedom (WAF). In an exciting contest, WAF emerged victorious by six runs.
First Innings: WAF Sets Competitive Total
Winning the toss, WAF chose to bat first and posted a competitive total of 163 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Matthew Short played an outstanding innings, scoring 80 runs off just 50 deliveries, including ten fours and three sixes. TSK’s bowlers, Gerald Coetzee and Mitchell Santner, took two and one wickets respectively, while Dwayne Bravo contributed with one wicket as well.
Second Innings: TSK Falls Short
In response, TSK fell short of the target, finishing their innings at 157 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Faf du Plessis and Devon Conway departed early, putting pressure on the team. However, Dwayne Bravo played an exceptional innings, scoring 76 runs off 39 balls, including five fours and six sixes. One of Bravo’s sixes became the tournament’s biggest, traveling a distance of 106 meters.
Bravo’s Monumental Six
The highlight of the match was Bravo’s massive six, which occurred on the second ball of the 18th over. Anrich Nortje delivered a shortish delivery, and Bravo hammered it for a colossal six, earning applause from the crowd and his teammates.
Match Result
Despite Bravo’s heroic efforts, TSK couldn’t secure a victory. WAF’s Marco Jansen and Akeal Hosein stood out among the bowlers, taking two wickets each.
