Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Faces Backlash for On-field Behavior
Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain, has landed herself in hot water for her actions during the recent third ODI against Bangladesh women in Dhaka.
A video circulating online shows Harmanpreet Kaur apparently scolding the Bangladesh team during a photo session and criticizing the umpires for their poor performance in the match, which ended in a tie.
According to reports, the Bangladesh media also accused Harmanpreet Kaur of disrespecting Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty before the group photographs were taken.
Witnesses say that before posing for the team photo after the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet asked the organizers to call the umpires for the photo, as she believed they were responsible for the shared trophy.
Smriti Mandhana Calls for “Neutral Umpiring” After Controversial Decisions
Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has come to Harmanpreet’s defense, dismissing the allegations. She stated that she did not believe Harmanpreet made any comments directed at the Bangladesh captain, and that Harmanpreet only discussed matters related to umpiring.
Mandhana urged everyone to focus on what happened during the match and not speculate about post-match incidents that were not caught on camera.
Furthermore, reports indicate that the Bangladesh cricket board has notified the BCCI and ICC about the Indian captain’s behavior.
