Prasidh Krishna has identified role clarity and consistent communication as the factors behind his form as India’s primary fast bowler in the current ODI series against West Indies. The pacer currently leads India’s wicket-taking charts for the 2026 calendar year, having taken 15 wickets across eight matches.
With Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh participating in the 2026 Asian Games, Krishna has taken on a more prominent role in the attack. This squad composition was on display during India’s eight-wicket victory in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, where the hosts chased down 296 to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
While Krishna anchored the bowling, the match featured landmark achievements from Virat Kohli. The batter reached 15,000 career ODI runs and recorded his 55th century in the format during the successful chase. Krishna later noted that watching Kohli’s performance from the dressing room was a standout experience during the opener.
Regarding his own rhythm and the team environment, Krishna said: “When you come in knowing what exactly has to be done, there is clarity within the team, there is clarity in me as to what I do when I come in, there is enough communication going on. So all of those things accumulate and help me bowl well.”
The current pace battery includes Gurnoor Brar and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Krishna’s familiarity with Brar stems from their time as teammates at Gujarat Titans, which he believes has translated to better on-field coordination.
“Gurnoor and I have spent two years now at Gujarat Titans. So I kind of know we have that rapport. Most importantly, it’s the ability that you have within the team to talk to each other, and that happens,” Krishna added.
Analysis of the current squad suggests Krishna has effectively transitioned into a senior role due to the absence of multi-format regulars, a shift reflected in his leading statistical output this year. His performance in 2026 has provided a consistent wicket-taking option for the management during a period of squad rotation.
India travels to Guwahati for the second ODI on September 30, before the series concludes in New Chandigarh on October 3.
