India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to meet in the 2026 Asian Games men’s cricket semi-finals on October 1 in Nisshin. The fixture follows a quarter-final stage where all four matches, including India’s game against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka’s clash with Nepal, were abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain.
Under tournament regulations, the seeded teams—India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh—advanced to the semi-finals because of their higher ICC T20I rankings in their respective abandoned fixtures.
The weather forecast for the match at Kōrogi Sports Park indicates a significant improvement. Conditions in Nisshin are expected to be sunny with a high of 30°C and a 1% chance of rain. If the semi-final cannot be completed, a Super Over will be attempted. If weather prevents a Super Over, India will advance to the final as the higher-seeded team.
Organizers have updated the regulations for the gold medal match. Unlike the 2023 edition, which relied on seeding during washouts, the 2026 final will declare both finalists joint winners if the match is abandoned.
India’s squad is captained by Shreyas Iyer and includes Jasprit Bumrah, vice-captain Tilak Varma, and 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. “When you represent India, there are always expectations that you have to finish at the top. And that is a good pressure,” Iyer said ahead of the knockout stage.
Sri Lanka is led by Sahan Arachchige. Their squad features Niroshan Dickwella, Chamika Karunaratne, and Nuwan Thushara. Both teams enter the semi-final without match play in the quarter-final round.
The first semi-final between Pakistan and Bangladesh is scheduled for 05:30 AM IST on October 1. The India vs Sri Lanka match is scheduled to follow at 10:00 AM IST. The winners will advance to the gold medal match, while the losers will compete for the bronze.
