NCL GT20 Canada will temporarily relocate to the Caribbean for its 2026 season, with St. Vincent and the Grenadines confirmed as the primary host nation. The tournament will move from its traditional summer window to an October-November slot as part of a strategic partnership between NCL Canada and Cricket West Indies (CWI).
The relocation is a temporary measure for the 2026 edition. Tournament organizers have confirmed that the league will return to Canadian soil for the 2027 season following the one-year Caribbean stay.
As part of the evolving partnership, CWI is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire an ownership stake in the league. Under this proposed arrangement, the West Indies governing body could field its own franchise in the competition, according to reports.
Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of CWI, described the collaboration as a milestone for regional development. “This is a pivotal and forward-looking moment for West Indies and Canadian cricket. As the only ICC Full Member nation in the hemisphere, this collaboration promises tremendous mutual potential,” Shallow said.
Analysis of the move suggests the tournament will likely utilize the upgraded infrastructure at Arnos Vale Stadium, which underwent modernization for the 2024 T20 World Cup. While the October-November window avoids the height of the North American summer cricket calendar, analysis notes that the timing coincides with the Caribbean’s rainy season transition.
Arun Agarwal of NCL Canada noted that the partnership aims to strengthen the professional pipeline for North American cricketers. “By creating opportunities for enhanced competition, opening access to high-performance training in the Caribbean, and building a true development pipeline, we are giving young players something that hasn’t existed here before, a clear, credible path from learning the game to playing it professionally,” Agarwal said.
The 2026 edition is expected to feature franchises including the Mississauga Skyhawks, Toronto Titans, Vancouver Guardians, Surrey Fraser, and Brampton Blazers. This lineup marks a shift from previous team identities, though final confirmation on the full franchise configuration is still pending.
