Former Namibia captain Yasmeen Khan has been named in a 28-player South Africa Women‘s red-ball training camp in Centurion. The session, scheduled from September 27–30, 2026, at the Irene Cricket Club, serves as the first phase of preparation for upcoming Test matches against India and Australia.
Khan’s inclusion in the national setup follows her retirement from international cricket with Namibia in June 2026. A wicketkeeper-batter born in George, South Africa, she recently returned to the domestic system to represent the Hollywoodbets Dolphins. Her transition to the Proteas camp comes after a career as Namibia’s leading run-scorer.
The training roster does not include senior all-rounder Marizanne Kapp. While she is not part of this developmental camp, Kapp has already confirmed her availability for the summer’s red-ball fixtures. On September 15, she withdrew from her commitments in the 2026 Women’s Big Bash League specifically to prioritize the home Test against India.
Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi noted that the four-day camp is intended to evaluate a broad group of players for the longest format. “We’ve purposefully cast the net wide with the players we have invited to the camp, with the aim of building a solid base of cricketers we can look to when it comes to the skills and mentality required to be successful in red-ball cricket and beyond,” Mashimbyi said.
The Proteas are scheduled to face India in a Test match at St George’s Park in Gqeberha from December 9–12, 2026. This will be followed by a Test against Australia at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom, set for April 8–11, 2027.
The Centurion camp will focus on identifying the technical attributes required for these fixtures, with domestic performances and this week’s training sessions expected to inform the final squad selection for the Gqeberha Test in December.
