Unusual Dismissal Goes Viral in Major League Cricket Match
A surprising moment in the cricketing world has caught the attention of fans on social media. Finn Allen’s dismissal during the 2023 Major League Cricket (MLC) match between the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) and the Seattle Orcas (SEO) has become viral.
The Unusual Dismissal
During the fourth over of the Unicorns’ run-chase of 177, Cameron Gannon, the Orcas’ fast bowler, bowled the second ball to Allen. Allen played a defensive shot towards mid-on and appeared to take a casual stroll. However, Shehan Jayasuriya showed exceptional awareness, picked up the ball, and hit the stumps directly, catching Allen short of his crease.
Reactions and Commentary
While the fielders found humor in the situation and shared a laugh, Allen seemed stunned and bewildered by the unexpected turn of events. Commentator Alan Wilkins expressed disappointment with the young New Zealand player, describing the dismissal as “just comedy.” This was Allen’s second disappointment in a row after his previous score of 10 (5) against MI New York.
Match Result
The Orcas defeated the Unicorns by 35 runs in the recent match. The Orcas scored a competitive total of 177 for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Despite the disciplined bowling efforts of Carmi le Roux (4-0-29-0) and Marcus Stoinis (4-0-28-0), the Orcas’ batsmen performed strongly. Heinrich Klaasen stood out with 53 runs off 31 balls.
In response, the Unicorns struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 142 runs in 17.5 overs. Shadab Khan showed notable resistance with 37 runs off 23 balls, but the lack of support from other Unicorns’ batters led to their downfall.
