On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 has been postponed “with immediate effect” after seven people who took part in the tournament-tested positive for Covid-19.
The PCB said the decision was made out of consideration for the health and well-being of all participants in the tournament.
“After meeting with the team owners and taking into account the health and well-being of all participants, it is of the utmost importance, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to postpone the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 with immediate effect. The decision was made after 7 cases were reported in the tournament, which began on February 20,” the officials said in a press release.
The PCB will focus on “safe and safe passage” for participants and arrange repeated PCR tests, vaccines, and isolation facilities for the six franchises.
PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan and Commercial Director Babar Hamid will hold a press conference to give more details at 3 p.m., the press release added.
The PCB confirmed earlier in the day that three additional players from two different teams had tested positive for the coronavirus, adding that they will now undergo 10 days of self-isolation.
The players were tested in the afternoon after showing symptoms, according to the statement. They had not been part of yesterday’s games in the PSL 6 double-header with Karachi Kings vs Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators vs Multan Sultans.
A day earlier, the PCB decided to offer sars coronavirus vaccine doses to all participants in PSL 6 and became the first cricket board to do so.
The decision was made in accordance with the PCB’s duty of care and to ensure that all participants in the competition remain safe and healthy during the event, which was due to conclude on March 22.
Earlier this week, Islamabad United’s Fawad Ahmed became the first player in the tournament to test positive. United’s game with Quetta Gladiators, to be held on March 1, was postponed while other players were tested.
The PCB later announced that both Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United squads test results had returned negatively.
However, the next day, two more overseas cricketers and a local backroom assistant also tested positive.
