New Zealand’s star batsman Ross Taylor has made it clear that he won’t rule out his chances of playing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for the Black Caps. Taylor is currently 35 and will be 38 years old during the 2023 World Cup.
Playing cricket at a high level at such an age is quite challenging. Legends of the game have failed to do so. Taylor believes he can sustain it and bring glory for the Kiwis in the next World Cup.
“I guess where we are at the moment, has prolonged my career, the break. Talking about my career, I just want to feel like I am contributing and good enough to play and still loving the game. If I can tickle those boxes, age will become just a number,” Ross Taylor stated.
He added,” I still feel like I want to improve my game, and still, there are areas of my game where I want to improve. I still have the mindset that I can improve every day, and I have got things to work on. I can’t see myself retiring anytime soon. Obviously, there will come a day when you have got to hang up your boots, but as I said, as long as I am still enjoying it and good enough to be selected, on merit, and hopefully, it can still go until the next world cup 2023.”
“I haven’t ruled it out, but I still think it’s a long way away. First and foremost, I want to get to next year – the T20 World Cup and then the home summer – and then I’ll have a good idea on how I’m placed at the end of next summer,” Taylor was quoted as saying by ‘stuff.co.nz.’
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will take place in India. New Zealand lost its second successive world cup final last year when they were beaten by hosts England by way of scoring more boundaries as the game ended in a tie in regular overs and the super over.
