Indian left-arm spinner Sree Charani reached 817 rating points in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings, the highest mark recorded in the format’s history. This milestone follows India‘s gold-medal win at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Charani surpassed the previous all-time record of 806 points held by Australia’s Megan Schutt since 2018.
Charani is the third woman to reach the 800-point threshold in T20I bowling, joining Schutt and England’s Sophie Ecclestone. Since her international debut in June 2025, she has reached this record in 15 months. In the 2026 calendar year, Charani has taken 47 wickets in 23 T20Is across the T20 World Cup, Asia Cup, and Asian Games.
During the Asian Games tournament, she finished as the leading wicket-taker with eight wickets from three matches. This included career-best figures of 4/10 against Japan. India defended their Asian Games gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final on September 22, 2026.
The latest rankings update also saw Smriti Mandhana return to the top five of the ICC Women’s T20I Batting Rankings. Mandhana scored 79 off 46 balls in the Asian Games final. In the bowling department, Deepti Sharma holds the No. 2 spot with 754 points, trailing Charani by 63 points. Charani’s 817-point peak is the highest in the women’s game and approaches the cross-gender T20I bowling record of 857 set by Pakistan’s Umar Gul.
Sachin Tendulkar described the period as a “golden moment” for Indian women’s cricket following the team’s consecutive titles at the Asia Cup and Asian Games. Charani, who was reclaimed by Delhi Capitals for 1.3 crore in the 2026 WPL Mega Auction, stated that her primary focus remains on contributing to team tournament victories.
