India’s Sree Charani and Deepti Sharma have secured the top two positions in the latest ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings. The update follows India’s 72-run victory over Sri Lanka on September 13 to clinch their eighth Asia Cup title.
Charani retained the No. 1 ranking with a career-best 804 rating points. She is the first Indian player—batter or bowler—to cross the 800-point threshold in T20I history. The left-arm spinner’s rise followed her performance of 4/20 in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.
According to an ICC official release, “Charani’s outstanding 4/20 in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka lifted the left-arm spinner above the 800-point mark for the first time to a career-best 804.”
Deepti Sharma climbed four places to reach No. 2 in the bowling rankings, a career high. The off-spinner finished the 2026 Asia Cup as the leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps. Analysis of the current rankings suggests a period of Indian bowling dominance, with both Charani and Sharma peaking at the same time.
In the batting rankings, Shafali Verma moved up to 6th place with 741 points after scoring a tournament-high 236 runs. She also reached 15th in the all-rounder rankings. Smriti Mandhana remains in 5th position with 745 points, maintaining a four-point lead over Verma.
The rankings update also included gains for other Indian squad members, with Nandani Sharma moving up to 94th and Prema Rawat reaching 96th. Historical context shows Charani is now one of only three women to ever reach the 800-point bowling mark, joining Australia’s Megan Schutt and England’s Sophie Ecclestone. She is currently two rating points behind Schutt’s all-time record of 806.
