Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Rising Stocks in Indian Cricket
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been making waves in the world of cricket recently. After his impressive performances in First-Class cricket and the IPL 2023 season, he was selected as a stand-by player for India’s squad in the WTC final against Australia last month.
As a result, Jaiswal has now been included in India’s 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting on July 12.
Advice from Ajinkya Rahane
Before the first Test, India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has given Jaiswal some advice if he makes his debut in Dominica.
Considering Jaiswal’s exceptional performance in domestic cricket, it is likely that he will be included in the playing XI. The 21-year-old has an average of 80.21 in First-Class cricket with nine centuries in 26 innings.
Rahane said, “Firstly, I’m really happy for him. He’s a really exciting talent. He has performed well in domestic cricket for Mumbai and also in the IPL. Most importantly, the way he has been batting in red-ball cricket is commendable. He also did well in the Duleep Trophy last year.”
He added, “My message to him will be to just express his batting the way he has been batting, without thinking too much about international cricket. It’s all about going out in the middle and playing his game, playing with freedom. That is very important. I’m really happy for him.”
Possibility of Batting at No. 3
With senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara not being a part of the Test side, there is a chance for Yashasvi Jaiswal to bat at No. 3. However, Rahane was uncertain about where the young left-hander would fit in the line-up.
Rahane said, “Definitely, there’s an opportunity for someone to play in place of Pujara. It’s a great chance for that individual to perform well. I’m not sure who will play at number three, but whoever it is, I’m confident that they will do well.”
