Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has ascended to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings, overtaking Rashid Khan to claim the world number one spot. Abrar reached 736 rating points, moving one point clear of the Afghanistan captain, who fell to second place following a series against India.
Abrar is the fifth Pakistan bowler to lead the T20I rankings and the first leg-spinner from the country to reach the summit since Shahid Afridi. England’s bowling unit also saw major movement, with Jamie Overton jumping 47 places to a career-best sixth position. Meanwhile, veteran spinner Adil Rashid slipped to fourth. Rashid has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka with a right-hand injury, with Rehan Ahmed named as his replacement.
In the batting rankings, England captain Harry Brook moved to a career-best fourth position with 793 rating points. Brook’s rise follows a T20I series against Sri Lanka where he scored 170 runs to help England secure a 3-0 sweep. The ICC noted that Brook is in line to become the “only contemporary batter in the top 10 in all three formats.” He currently holds the top spot in the Test rankings and occupies 12th place in ODIs.
Beyond the T20I shifts, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza moved to second place in the ICC Men’s ODI All-Rounder Rankings with 276 points. Raza also climbed five places to 24th in the ODI batting list. Australian seamer Nathan Ellis achieved a career-high 17th position in the ODI bowling rankings.
England currently leads the ODI series against Sri Lanka 1-0. The remaining fixtures provide Brook with the opportunity to secure the points needed to break into the top 10 of the ODI batting rankings and complete the triple-format milestone.
