Hong Kong secured their first victory of the 2026 Asian Games with a 41-run win over Oman at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin. Defending a total of 121, Hong Kong restricted Oman to 80 for 6 to move into second place in Group B.
Ayush Shukla led the bowling effort with a decisive opening spell, taking 3 for 23 in his four overs. His early breakthroughs reduced Oman to 5 for 3, a start that stifled the chase. While Sufyan Mehmood scored an unbeaten 26, Oman struggled to increase the scoring rate against the Hong Kong attack and finished their 20 overs well short of the target.
Earlier, Hong Kong posted 121 for 8 in their 20 overs. Hafeez Khan top-scored with 33, providing a primary contribution on a surface at Kōrogi Sports Park that has favored both movement and spin throughout the tournament. The Oman side, which included seven players sharing the surname ‘Al Balushi’, maintained a disciplined bowling performance but could not replicate the effort with the bat.
The result leaves the qualification path for the quarter-finals undecided. Malaysia currently leads Group B with one win. The final group match between Oman and Malaysia is scheduled for Saturday, September 26. A victory for Oman would result in a three-way tie on points, with Net Run Rate determining which team progresses to join the seeded nations in the next round.
