Pakistan and Bangladesh are scheduled to contest the first semi-final of the 2026 Asian Games men’s cricket competition on October 1. Both teams advanced to the knockout stage at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin without playing their quarter-final matches, which were abandoned due to the effects of Typhoon Dujuan.
Weather conditions for the 9:00 AM local time fixture are expected to improve significantly. Forecasts indicate a one percent chance of rain with temperatures reaching 30°C. Japan Cricket Association official Alan Curr noted the unusual weather patterns that disrupted the previous rounds, stating, “The rain is a bit unseasonable because in Sept last year it was warm and sunny. The typhoons usually blow over and we hoped the weather would hold up.”
Sahibzada Farhan captains the Pakistan squad, which includes Saim Ayub and Mohammad Wasim. While Pakistan holds a 21-5 historical advantage over Bangladesh in T20Is, both nations have fielded developmental sides for this tournament. The teams have yet to complete a full match in the knockout phase after the total washout of all four quarter-finals on September 28 and 29.
Tournament regulations dictate that if the semi-final is abandoned, a Super Over will be attempted to determine a winner. If play remains impossible, Pakistan will advance to the gold medal match as the higher-seeded team. This seeding rule also applies to the second semi-final between Shreyas Iyer’s India and Sahan Arachchige’s Sri Lanka, where India holds the advantage.
The winner of the Nisshin opener will secure a place in the final, while the losing side will compete for the bronze medal. Following a week of heavy saturation at Kōrogi Sports Park, the ground conditions will be a primary factor as the tournament moves into its final stages in the Aichi Prefecture.
