The 2026-27 One-Day Cup opening match between Western Australia and South Australia was declared a ‘No Result’ at the WACA Ground after heavy rain stopped a rapid chase from the visitors. Play was halted after only 7.4 overs of the second innings, which fell short of the 15-over minimum required to determine a result under the DLS method.
South Australia had reached 58/0 in pursuit of 239 when the weather intervened. Jake Fraser-McGurk led the charge with an unbeaten 46 from 33 deliveries, striking seven fours and two sixes. An analysis of the match state suggests the rain proved timely for the hosts, as South Australia required 181 more runs with all ten wickets intact at the time of the abandonment.
Western Australia’s total of 238/9 was built on a recovery led by debutant Kieran Elliott. After arriving from Tasmania, Elliott entered with the side struggling at 134/7 following a spell from Henry Thornton. Thornton took 4-52 in nine overs, taking the wickets of Sam Fanning, Joel Curtis, Cameron Bancroft, and captain Ashton Turner.
Elliott produced an unbeaten 53 from 71 balls and shared a 69-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Brody Couch. Speaking after the abandonment, Elliott acknowledged the match situation. “Jake batted incredibly well, so potentially we dodged a bullet with the rain the way we were heading,” he said.
The fixture was the first competitive match for Beau Casson as Western Australia’s head coach, having taken over the reins from Adam Voges. The home side’s bowling options were limited before the start of play as pace bowler Lance Morris was ruled out with a side strain.
Both teams received two points for the result. The tournament continues on September 19 as Victoria faces Queensland, while Western Australia is scheduled to play Tasmania on September 20 at the same venue.
